Follow Friday #25

Thanks to Parajunkee for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This weeks question-

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

A: While I do love a good love triangle, I can't stand the same one over and over again. That aside, I think one thing I can't stand more than anything elsein books is girls who constantly put themselves down. IE (Sorry Stephenie Meyer) Bella always saying she was never good enough for Edward. That she was plain. That there was nothing special about her. She made herself helpless and I couldn't STAND it. Did I mention I can't stand that?

I think Dana over at Reasoning With Vampires says it best when it comes to how I feel about Bella and her self confidence issues:

Can't wait to see ya'lls pet peeves. Happy Friday!

Oh, and go check out my next entry for a chance to win a signed copy of Tears of the Broken by A.M. Hudson

  2. Definitely a new follower, popping in from the hop. :)

I'm not anti-Bella exactly, but I do get what you mean and it did grate a bit on the nerves. I hate it, when character's act like they're nothing special or that they aren't worth anything. It's like, they're forgetting there's already a million and one people out there who are going to walk all over their backs, that they're going to go ahead and add their own foot tracks as well. Annoying.

  3. New follower. I understand what you're saying, but I guess I kind of liked Bella because I feel the same way about myself as she did about herself. Guess I probably annoy people too. :-) YOu can check out my pet peeve here: http://misclisa.blogspot.com/2011/11/follow-friday-13.html

  5. Haha, unfortunately all that negative energy coming from one character makes you believe them! I don't like whiny characters either.

    Great answers. :)

  6. Haha! I love that quote!
I also hate when female characters are constantly putting themselves down, especially when they feel unworthy of some wonderful/gorgeous/glorious/blahblahblah guy. I'm pretty much as anti-Bella as one can get, she's just the epitome of a bad female role model for young girls.

  7. I completely agree! I hate whiny female characters. By halfway through Twilight I agreed with Bella that she was't good enough for Edward!

  8. Great point about characters not standing up for themselves. It makes you think why should I feel anything for you as a character when they can't even feel for themselves. New Follower. =]

  9. LOLLL!!!!!!!! I laughed so hard I almost fell off my chair. I used to like Bella (surprisingly) but sometimes she just gets on my nerves. He loves you, accept it already! I don't think a character should look down at him/herself, that is why I adore strong characters like Katniss from the Hunger Games.

Great FF! I'm a new follower:)

  13. That Bella quote is fantastic! I agree, it almost seems abusive for the heroine to act like that. I can't stand that sort of relationship.

  14. Yes! Totally agree about the whiny characters! I don't mind a little self-reflection, but constantly doing it just starts to get on readers' nerves. Thanks for visiting! New follower.
