Follow Friday #50

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosing Feature and Follow Friday as always!

This weeks question is an interesting one...

Q: Today’s is the US’ Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.

A: First, I know Independence Day was yesterday, but I didn't get around to this yesterday. :-P Second, I don't think I've read many books with war or overthrown government in them. There was War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, but I felt so bad for that horse the entire time I wanted to throw my book out the window every time something happened to that poor animal. Then there's The Hunger Games, which I love, but I don't know if it's my favorite.

I don't know if this is considered either one of those novels, but I would have to go with Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Or maybe that whole series, because I love them. Katsa is usurping the rule of her uncle, King Randa by working with her friends to save people rather than kill them, which is what he thinks she was more or less born to do. Not to mention she has to save Bitterblue from King Leck and then find some way to defeat him.

What's your favorite "war" book?

Todays question:

Q: Share your favorite literary quote!

    .

A: That's really a hard one. There are so many quotes that I love.

From Stardust by Neil Gaiman:
“A philosopher once asked, "Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?"
Pointless, really..."Do the stars gaze back?" Now that's a question.”

From Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
“I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.”

From The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis
"All get what they want; they do not always like it."
Those are just a few of mine. What about you guys?

Follow Friday #48

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

I hadn't done a legitimate post in a while so I figured I'd try and wade back in with this one.

Q: Happy Mother’s Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?

A: I think it would definitely have to be Mrs. Weasley. She's the kind of mom I like to think I am when it comes to my children. Mess with me and you'll have hell to pay. But she's so incredibly kind to Harry and treats him like her own. She's strong and a force to be reckoned with. Gotta love her.

What about you? Who is your favorite fictional mom?

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week.

This weeks question:

What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?
A: I don't know if this counts, but I really wish that NO ONE liked 50 Shades of Grey (Gray? I don't really care). I've read enough reviews and I've seen enough people go absolutely ridiculous over this book that it makes me feel nauseous. I don't want to read "mommy porn". I don't care HOW much you say I will like it. There is nothing sexy or romantic about a woman allowing a man to BEAT her. Absolutely nothing. I was actually IN an abusive relationship. Mentally, verbally, and occasionally physically, and I tell you what... it didn't turn me on. It made me angry. It's an awful thing to experience. I can promise you that I will never EVER read ANY of those books.

Sorry, I'll step down off my soap box now.

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This week's question is a toughie....

Q: What is the first thing you would do if you woke up to find yourself in your favorite book? via @GizmosReviews

A: There are so many different books for me to choose from I don't know which one is my all time favorite. I'd go for the Harry Potter series first of all, in which case I would run and make friends with Ron, Harry, and Hermione of course. Then there's Pride and Prejudice and if I woke up in THAT story I'd probably go for a walk with Lizzie Bennett or something. Then there's The Chronicles of Narnia. I'd want to wake up in time to see the creation of Narnia with Diggory and Polly.

I just can't pinpoint one favorite book. And this may sound weird, but I often find myself wondering this very thing. But... alas... it will never happen.

How about you guys. What would you do?

The Walking Dead BlogNation Week 6

Ok, so it's week 6 for TWD BlogNation, but it's week 1 for me. If you want information on what exactly TWD BlogNation is go to Parajunkee's View and check it out!

For this week, I'm going to answer all of the questions from week 1 until now. Since I was slacking and just didn't do them.

  1. Favorite male character? Daryl Dixon. Hands Down.
  2. Favorite female character? Maggie. She's awesome. A little naive at first, but she smartened up.
  3. Which character would you like to see eaten? Andrea. She is too stupid for words.
  4. Nastiest or Scariest walker you’ve seen on the show? Hmmmm..... nastiest would have to be the Well Walker from season 2. Gross.
  5. If the SHTF which character would you want to have on your side via the zombie apocalypse? Again, Daryl Dixon. No question about it.

Now for question 6.

Best TWD scene? All seasons.

My first pick would have to be in season 2 where Daryl brings Carol the Cherokee Rose and explains to her the significance of it and promises to find Sophia for her. ::sigh::

Second pick would be in season 3 where Daryl finds Carol in the cell he's been sitting in front of and carries her back to the group.

Follow Friday #45

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting FF every week.

It's been a while since I've done one of these, and for a bit I couldn't figure out what my answer would be, but here ya go.

Q: Activity! Who do you want to be? If you could choose any character from a book. What do you think that character looks like and what do you have in common?

A: At first, I wanted to say Hermione. Because, let's face it, she's awesome. She has awesome friends. And she gets to go to Hogwarts. But I thought some more and decided on Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. It's hard not to picture her as Keira Knightly from the 2005 movie. She's not described fully aside from her eyes and her hair, but I'd imagine she'd be pretty (the book says as much). Not drop dead gorgeous, but pretty in a quiet sort of way, if that makes sense. She's smart and quick witted. And hey, she snags Mr. Darcy. Who wouldn't want to be in her place?

What about you guys? Who do you want to be?

Follow Friday #43

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday ever week! You girls are awesome!

This week's question:

Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

A: I have. I'm really a fantasy/paranormal kind of person... but when I worked at the YMCA in the nursery during the summer we were really slow. There were times we had zero children to watch so one day I asked my dad to bring me a book. He brought me Rage by Jonathan Kellerman and Cause of Death by Patricia Cornwell. Both the True Crime kind of novels. They were both very exciting reads and I highly recommend both authors. Every once in a while it's fun to step outside of the box and read something different. These novels didn't have the long slow build up that a lot of fantasy novels have because they're trying to explain entire worlds and different creatures and things. They're set in modern day real world and everything is already set up. These were kind of like watching an episode of Law and Order, but in book form. Very good.

How about you guys? Every genre jump and love it?

Follow Friday #42

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday ever week! You girls are awesome!

This week's question:

Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then “broke up” with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

A: Ya know... I thought about the answer to this for a while before actually coming to answer it. And honestly? I just don't know. The only character I could even think of was Edward Cullen. I thought he was just the cat's meow at first. But then I re-read New Moon and completely changed my mind. He didn't deserve to be the one that got the girl in the end. He was a jerk. He deserved to be lonely and miserable. Instead, Bella, not really being the brightest crayon in the box, leaves Jacob (the guy who's actually BEEN THERE FOR HER the whole time and who is a complete and total awesome person) for the guy who told her she didn't belong in his world. That he didn't want her. Stupid girl.

If you all haven't yet, go check out Reasoning With Vampires for all the reasons Edward is not swoonworthy and Bella is just... Bella.

Can't wait to see ya'lls answers!

Follow Friday #40

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting FF every week!

This weeks question:

Q: What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

A: Probably Graceling or Fire by Kristin Cashore. I would be worried about the type of people picked to play Katsa and Po. Or Fire and Brigan. And would they get the gracelings right? Or the monsters?

How about you?

Desperately Waiting Wednesday: Books I Want to Buy but Keep Putting Back on the Shelf

Desperatly Wanting Wednesday, hosted by Parajunkee's View

I do it every time I go to the store. I spend at least 10-15 minutes in the book aisle, looking at all the books I don't have that I want. I pick them up, marvel at the covers, flip through the pages, and then put them back on the shelf. It's the same books every time. It's always a battle between just piling up my cart with books and the knowledge that I have to buy groceries instead.

The Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck

Sweetly by Jackson Pearce

Twelve years ago, Gretchen, her twin sister, and her brother went looking for a witch in the forest. They found something. Maybe it was a witch, maybe a monster, they aren’t sure—they were running too fast to tell. Either way, Gretchen’s twin sister was never seen again.

Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. They move in with Sophia Kelly, a young and beautiful chocolatier owner who opens not only her home, but her heart to Gretchen and Ansel.

Yet the witch isn’t gone—it’s here, lurking in the forests of Live Oak, preying on Live Oak girls every year after Sophia Kelly’s infamous chocolate festival. But Gretchen is determined to stop running from witches in the forest, and start fighting back. Alongside Samuel Reynolds, a boy as quick with a gun as he is a sarcastic remark, Gretchen digs deeper into the mystery of not only what the witch is, but how it chooses its victims. Yet the further she investigates, the more she finds herself wondering who the real monster is, and if love can be as deadly as it is beautiful.

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

The Dark Divine by Bree Despain

What about you? Which books do you want?

Follow Friday #37

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This weeks question:

Q: Activity!!! Take a picture or describe where you love to read the most…

A: I may add a picture to this later... but I don't think there's one place I love to read the most. I read on the big squishy leather sofa in the living room. I read on my bed or in the big green recliner in my bedroom. I read in the tub ::cough:: when I take a bath. I can read anywhere. Maybe if I purposefully made myself an area where I liked to read it would be my favorite. But my room's been kind of pieced together with lots of different things from different places since I moved from Maine and left everything I owned behind.

Where do you like to read the most?

Follow Friday #36

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This weeks question:

Q: BeefcakeandBabes Asks: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?

A: Hmmm.... I read a lot of epic fantasy so there aer LOTS of unique and unusual character names. Like Murtagh or Galbatorix or Islanzadi from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Legolas, Eowyn, Faramir and 99.9% of the names from Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. Hermione (I know this one may only be unique to me), Albus Dumbledore (I love what this one means), Minerva McGonagall from Harry Potter by JK Rowling. Katsa and Po from Graceling by Kristin Cashore. Sabriel and Lirael from the books of the same name by Garth Nix. There are probably tons more that I could find but I think I've taken up enough room. :-P

Big thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This weeks question:

Q: What would your prefer: reading your favorite book over and over again until you got sick of it OR reading 100s of mediocre books? And why?

A: Yay! An easy one. :-) I would prefer reading my favorite book over and over again until I got sick of it. I mean seriously, hundreds of mediocre books? Books that I didn't really enjoy? Why bother when one that I love is sitting on my shelf just waiting for me to pick it up again.

Can't wait to see what ya'll chose!

Follow Friday #34

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This weeks question:

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick ass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

A: I think it may be easier to say what I can't STAND in novels. LoL. But I'll try. I love strong kick ass heroines. Like Katsa from Graceling and Fire from, well, Fire. I also love when the male characters are understanding and respectful of the main female character that they're in love with, and don't pressure her to do or say or be anything that's completely ridiculous. If that makes sense. Like Prince Po. I kind of like when the hard ass male lead characters end up being softies. :-P Like Prince Brigan. Does that make any sense?

Can't wait to see your FFs!

Thanks to Parajunkee and Alison Can Read for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This weeks question:

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

A. Well, this week's question is definitely not a hard one. I tend to stay away from non-fiction stuff in general. Biographies, autobiographies, memoirs, self-help. Stuff like that. Bores me to tears.

Wow, that was an easy one. :-P What about you guys?

Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get your hands on any particular book?

I don't think I've ever done anything crazy. When Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out my mom, brother, and I went to Borders at probably 6:00 the night before to wait for the midnight release. My mom even dressed like a witch. LoL. The Hansel and Gretel kind. It was great.

Follow Friday #31

Follow Friday is hosted every week by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

This weeks question:

Q: Many readers/bloggers are also big music fans. Tell us about a few of your favorite bands/singers that we should listen to in 2012.

A. Ugh. A hard one. Because I really don't have any favorites anymore. Nothing new anyway. I listen to movie soundtracks when I listen to music... Or I listen to mixed CDs I made when I was 18.

Stuff like Danny Elfman:

And Dario Marianelli:

Tenth Avenue North is great:

I like Carbon Leaf:

Alestorm is pretty cool:

I will forever love Linkin Park:

Eric Calderone is BOSS on guitar:

I love this song by The Band Perry:

I'll plug Educated Advocates because one of them is a friend of mine:

B.Done is a friend of mine too, you should check him out:

This is another one of my favorites:

Yeah so.... there ya go. I don't have just ONE band or singer I love to listen to over everyone else.

Would love to see what ya'll pick though!
