This weeks question:
What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?A: I don't know if this counts, but I really wish that NO ONE liked 50 Shades of Grey (Gray? I don't really care). I've read enough reviews and I've seen enough people go absolutely ridiculous over this book that it makes me feel nauseous. I don't want to read "mommy porn". I don't care HOW much you say I will like it. There is nothing sexy or romantic about a woman allowing a man to BEAT her. Absolutely nothing. I was actually IN an abusive relationship. Mentally, verbally, and occasionally physically, and I tell you what... it didn't turn me on. It made me angry. It's an awful thing to experience. I can promise you that I will never EVER read ANY of those books.
Sorry, I'll step down off my soap box now.
I didn't even try reading 50 shades. It sounds horrible from the get-go.

That's revolting! I knew there was a lot of sex in Fifty Shades of Grey, but I never knew that the love interest actually beat the girl!

Here's my #FF.
Agreed! Never reading those either.

Hopping through. I managed to get through 19 chapters of 50 Shades and then had to stop. I didn't see anything romantic about it either.

I read them but I really doubt I'll read them again. I would never want to be treated that way.

50 Shades of Grey isn't my kind of read, so right from the start I knew I won't be reading it at all.

Happy Reading! :)
I have no desire to read them! I like books that have a little more plot then "sex education."

I know a lot of people liked 50 Shades, I thought it was interesting that a book series was getting so much attention for the erotic romance genre even though it's been around for quite awhile. I also think that if people want to read erotic romance, there are better examples out there. I personally am very picky about the erotic romances that I read and while I did read 50 Shades of Grey and picked it apart in my review, I didn't add it to my "Favorite Books" list mainly because I don't like wimpy, whiny or powerless females in my romances. Much less virgins or virgin like heroines in a contemporary romance. I had to read it to see what the fuss was about and I don't like to criticize a book or author unless I have something to back it up with.
ReplyDeleteI will say that I don't care for any romance where there is heavy BDSM, pain, degradation or a lack of mutual consent. There's a fine line between seduction and rape, I'm not saying 50 crossed it, but there is a new, disturbing (to me) trend of over the top, domineering, a-hole type "heroes" out there with "heroines" that just let them do whatever they want and call it love.
To each his/her own I guess, I have a lot of friends who loved this series and I can get into a whole analytical discussion about these books but I won't :)

Fifty shades just didn't interest me at all. I've read excerpts which were enough to put me off!

I TOTALLY agree! I didn't realise it was a porn novel at the time... boy, was I in for a shock... Lets just say that since that scarring day, I cringe at the sight of gray ties...
