Library Score

I went to the library today just to fax some things for my sister and saw that it was BOOK SALE TIME again. WOO.

I scored 25 books for $12.50.

And I'm excited because I'd been trying to figure out how to get my oldest daughter started on The Babysitter's Club by Ann M. Martin. She had book 1, Kristy's Great Idea, already. But everywhere I looked the books were on sale for 4-5 dollars a piece. It would take forever to build up the series for her.

Until today.

TODAY.... 18 of the 25 books I got were Babysitter's Club! Included in the 18 are 3 of the BSC Mystery books, Logan's Story, and a Super Special that even I hadn't read. Everything is original cover too. Not the new ones. It was great.

I picked up a few books for my youngest and a few for myself, but I'll save mine for this weekend!

Covers Around the World - The Babysitters Club: Kristy's Great Idea by Ann M. Martin

This week, inspired by my oldest and the Homeschool Reading Corner post from last Wednesday, I thought we'd go a little old school this week. Kristy's Great Idea is book number one in The Babysitters Club series.

English edition (this is the cover on the copy I had) published in 1986

English edition published in 1995 (cover's blurry because I blew up the pic)

English edition (published in 2010 and on the cover of my daughter's copy)

English edition (also from 2010, I actually LOVE this cover!)

English edition (graphic novel version of the story)

Dutch edition

Ok, so it turns out that this wasn't really around the world. Since the only foreign language edition was the Dutch one. But I like them! How about you!

Homeschool Reading Corner: The Babysitters Club - Kristy's Great Idea by Ann M. Martin

To my great surprise, my oldest voluntarily, COMPLETELY on her own, picked up book one in The Babysitters Club series. She got Kristy's Great Idea for Christmas and during her reading time for school decided to give it a try. I was excited. I LOVED the series.

Kristy thinks the Baby-sitters Club is a great idea. She and her friends Claudia, Stacey and Mary Anne all love taking care of kids. A club will give them the chance to have lots of fun-and make tons of money.

But nobody counted on crank calls, uncontrollable two-year-olds, wild pets, and parents who don't always tell the truth. And then there's Stacey, who's acting more and more mysterious. Having a baby-sitters club isn't easy, but Kristy and her friends aren't giving up until they get it right

I'm hoping she'll like these stories. Because they're stories she can kind of grow up with. They're not too old that she can't understand them, and they're about girls that are close to her age so maybe she'll be able to relate to them a bit more than some of the other books she's tried to read. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Follow Friday #17

Thanks to Parajunkee for hosting Follow Friday every week!

This week's question:

Q. How have your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?

A. Well, when I was a younger teenager I was still big into books like The Babysitter's Club by Ann M. Martin and The Babysitter by R.L. Stine. LoL. I didn't realize until I finished typing his name the similarities in both of those choices. Totally unrelated though. Well, almost. I mean, on the one hand, I liked the feel good, best friend type novels. They were what I wanted my life to be like. On the other hand, I also liked horror stories. And to me, RL Stine was the king of YA/Teen horror. Way back then I was in to "romance" novels too. And sad stories like Six Months to Live by Lurlene McDaniel. Full House was also on my list of MUST READS. Hehe.

As I got older, around 14 or 15 I started to read The Saddle Club. I loved horses, and again it was a feel good series and it was the way I wanted my world to be. Good friends, something I loved to do. I had probably 40 of those books. I wanted to give all of my BBC and SC books to Alanna, but they were thrown away last year. Which made me sad.

Then at 16 and 17 came Harry Potter. My mom read us The Goblet of Fire on the way to Florida in 2000. When we got back, she picked up the rest of the books and that was really all she wrote. We got the books on tape because Jim Dale was absolutely AMAZING. Love him.

Since then I've been pretty much strictly fantasy. Well, as far as what I pick up from the bookstore/library myself. But I will read whatever anyone gives me to read. Sometimes it's good to take a break. To keep your mind from getting all muddy. I don't really like romance novels, because my life hasn't exactly been one where that's been present at all, but I will read one if someone gives it to me. I love Jonathan Kellerman and James Patterson. I love Louis L'Amour and his stories about the Sackett's. I also dig Harlequin novels. I'm not gonna lie. Harlequin novels AND the Love Inspirational novels. :-P I'm so weird.

So yeah... that was long and drawn out. Haha.

Last order of business, need input please! I'm debating on changing my name from Shhh... Not While I'm Reading to The Irish Bookworm. What do you guys think?
