Covers Around The World - Legacy by Cayla Kluver

This week it's one of my favorites. Legacy by Cayla Kluver (you can read my review here).

In an award-winning YA fantasy debut, 16-year-old novelist Cayla Kluver brings a magical touch to an unrelentingly suspenseful coming-of-age tale. Duty-bound to wed her father's choice in successor to the throne, Princess Alera of Hytanica believes that she is being forced into the worst of all possible fates' a marriage to the arrogant and hot-tempered suitor, Steldor. When a mysterious boy from enemy Cokyri appears bearing secrets and an entirely different view of what's appropriate behavior for a young lady, Alera learns that her private desires threaten to destroy the kingdom. When Narian's shocking past comes to light, Alera finds herself in a shadowy world of palace intrigue and ancient blood feuds, facing an uncertain future with dwindling options - and must learn to decide between right and wrong all alone. Marked by witty, rapid-fire dialogue and dramatic complexity that belie the writer's age, Legacy brings a fresh, new sensibility to age-old questions of duty and inheritance and to a young's heroine's quest to find her true voice.
This ^ is the cover on the re-release of the story. I like the design for the title, but I think this makes Alera look too old and too modern.

Another earlier US cover.

German cover
I love love LOVE the font they've used for the title.

Portuguese cover
I love the red on this one.

Spanish e-book edition

Italian cover (I think)

Dutch cover

Hungarian cover

Lots of really great covers. Which one's your favorite?

Review: Legacy by Cayla Kluver

So far this is the only book I've finished this month. I've slowed down my reading because my brain is working on overdrive right now. But I have to say I loved it. Cayla was extremely young when she authored this novel and reading it you'd think someone 2-3 times her age penned it.

Legacy is a great novel. Another novel where I wasn't completely irritated by a "love triangle". She did a good job making you dislike certain characters, and a good job making you want to root for others.

Alera is a wonderful princess. She's strong and thoughtful and EVEN THOUGH there were times I wanted to scream "SAY SOMETHING!!!" or "DON'T JUST LET THEM WALK AWAY!!!!" she was extremely well written. And I love how Kluver doesn't just leave all the other characters in the background. They're not bit parts. Alera's sister pops up all the time. London was another of my favorites. Tadark... I wanted to punch him in the face FOR her. Haha.

I really don't think I have anything negative to say about the book. It was written in a way that you didn't have a chance to get bored with it. There was always something happening but it wasn't overwhelming. All the twists and turns definitely brought things together nicely (I wish I could say more but I don't want to spoil it!). I loved the cover. And I loved the artwork at the beginning of each chapter. It was always kind of a teaser for what was to come.

I'm excited the book is being re-released by.... Harlequin Teen I believe. And I can't wait for the sequel! I'm dying to read it. I definitely recommend this book to absolutely EVERYONE!

* Edit *

Hi! I am aware there are different covers for this particular novel. The cover that I posted is the cover on the actual version that I read. Thanks anyway!

Teaser Tuesday #15

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Ok, so I've slowed down my reading a bit. There's been a lot going on lately. I'm still reading Legacy by Cayla Kluver. I finished the beta project I was reading, and Perchance to Dream by Lisa Mantchev, now all that's left is to finish Legacy and then I can move on to some of my newer books that I received forever and a day ago.

SO... because I love this book so much, I'm giving you another teaser from it. It's seriously wicked good. Ya'll should definitely check it out. Anyways.... here.

"Although I knew I should be wary of him after what I had witnessed only a few hours ago, my reaction was in fact quite different. I was feeling a very pleasant light and tingly sensation at being in his presence. 'Shall we walk?' Narian invited, still holding his horse's reins and seemingly unwilling to speak in front of my guards. 'Yes,' I murmured..." p 279

I really am in love with this book. You guys can find Cayla's blog here. It's really cute and has lots of information about release dates and things like that. Go follow her! That way you'll get the updates directly from her!

My teaser this week comes from Legacy again.

"The raw torrent swirled around me, threatening to drag me under, and I sputtered and flailed in panic, certain I would drown. Just as the current was about to sweep me away from the boulders, I was half dragged onto the rock by a pair of strong arms." p 195

I haven't read that far in so this is a teasser for me too. It's such a good book! I just haven't had a whole lot of time to read lately.

What Are You Reading?

So I've gotten sucked in to two different books. And I'm going back and forth between the two so frequently it's taking me a while to finish either one. But they're both equally interesting. The first is Perchance To Dream by Lisa Mantchev and the second is Legacy by Cayla Kluver. I'm a little more than have way through with the first and still pretty much just starting the second, but they're both so good it's hard to choose which one to pick up!

I did not have an IMM post this week because I didn't get any new books. But that's ok, because I've got so many books now that I haven't read that I may need to put myself on a book buying ban until I'm able to read them all. On top of the hard copy books I've got a bunch of books on my Kindle on my phone. I've been reading Dreaming Anastasia by Joy Preble for what seems like ages now. And it's not that it's a bad book. It's just that I'm a hard copy kind of person. So I really only get in to my Kindle every once in a while. That and because my phone has decided it no longer likes to work most of the time... so it doesn't. And it's just a hassle to try and use it.

And I'm a beta read for a YA project by Shelley Watters. This is the second project of Shelley's that I've had the privilege to be a beta reader for. She's a terrific author and I can't wait to see the LAST book of hers in print. I'll definitely be adding it to my shelves. It was awesome.

So that's where I am right now. I want you to know that while I haven't been able to respond to a lot of notes in the last couple weeks, I do read every single one of them and I appreciate them all. It's been a hectic/busy/stressful time here and I'm hoping that will settle down some time soon so I can get back to you all. Hope you have a beautiful week. Happy Monday!

Teaser Tuesday #12

Teaser Tuesday is hosted every week by MizB of Should Be Reading.

This week's teaser comes from Legacy by Cayla Kluver.

"The first boy disappeared on the day of his birth, on a night when the pale yellow moon that ruled the sky turned red and bathed the heavens in the ghastly color of blood, the same night the Kingdom of Cokyri abruptly ceased its merciless attack. Across the land of Hytanica, in the villages, infant boys continued to vanish." p 9

I admit, I picked this one up because I loved the cover. But so far I love the book too! And it was a 2009 debut from a 16 year old Cayla Kluver. I love reading stories like this. Absolutely love it. Wish I could have written something like this at 16.

Can't wait to see all your teasers!
