Teaser Tuesday #41

Thank you to MizB of Should Be Reading for giving us Teaser Tuesday every week!
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser comes from The Lens and the Looker by Lory S. Kaufman:

"The shop door burst open. Ugilino's eyes froze into the amazed eyes of the Master. Ugilino watched the Masters eyes move to his daughter and then to the pitch pot he held high over her head. Then, without a heartbeat's hesitation, he watched Agistino's bulk fly across the shop." p. 274

It’s the 24th century and humans, with the help of artificial intelligences (A.I.s), have finally created the perfect post-dystopian society. To make equally perfect citizens for this world, the elders have created History Camps, full sized recreations of cities from Earth’s distant pasts. Here teens live the way their ancestors did, doing the same dirty jobs and experiencing the same degradations. History Camps teach youths not to repeat the mistakes that almost caused the planet to die. But not everything goes to plan.

In this first of a trilogy, we meet three spoiled teens in the year 2347. Hansum almost 17, is good looking and athletic. Shamira, 15, is sassy, independent and an artistic genius. Lincoln, 14, is the smart-aleck. But you don’t have to scratch too far beneath the surface to find his insecurities.

These three “hard cases” refuse the valuable lessons History Camps teach. But when they are kidnapped and taken back in time to 1347 Verona, Italy, they only have two choices; adapt to the harsh medieval ways or die. The dangers are many, their enemies are powerful, and safety is a long way away. It’s hardly the ideal environment to fall in love – but that’s exactly what happens. In an attempt to survive, the trio risks introducing technology from the future. It could save them – or it could change history

This week's teaser comes from Catch Me a Cowboy by Katie Lane.

"Watch it Jesse." Bubba's deep voice had Shirlene's heart thumping against her ribcage. It lodged there when he suddenly appeared around the side of the trailer in all his shirtless glory. Since the air conditioner didn't work, she had figured he'd given up. Obviously, Bubba was more dedicated than she thought. Dedicated and wet...   p 134

Can't wait to check out ya'lls teasers!

This week's teaser comes from Luthiel's Song: The War of Mists by Robert Fanney.

"It's not worth it. What if the next one is you? Or Othalas? Or Melkion?" She wanted to throw the sword away. It was supposed to be her promise against death, sacrifice. Instead, sacrifice had become a part of it. But it was a link to her blood father. Even now, its song hummed just beyond understanding. Was it his voice that made the music? she wondered.

I absolutely loved book one when I read it back in... 2005. I've waited forEVER to read book number two! It's definitely starting out great

This week's teaser comes from The Caldecott Chronicles No. 2 by R.G. Bullet.

Saffy didn't turn so much as an inch and smashed right into the lot of them. They scattered like bowling pins. She simply hadn't taken in a word I said. In hindsight, I think it was sheer bloody-mindedness on her part, rather than a lack of driving skill.

Can't wait to see ya'lls teasers!

This week's teaser comes from the book I finished today, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.

An ominous shadow had fallen on the yard that morning, and not one of us could settle in our stables. When we were led out for exercise, we were jumpy and skittish, and Albert, like the other soldiers, reponded with impatience, jerking sharply, something I had never known him to do before.

Lots of commas, but I promise you, the book is definitely worth reading. Can't wait to see your teasers!

This weeks teaser comes from Blue by Lou Aronica.

"This is that place?" Chris glanced around him with a new sense of distress. The story they'd created about this island came vividly to mind now. It was about the event that turned this lightly populated spot into the hottest destination in Tamarisk one weekend a year - a festival that set itself against the natural splendor of hundreds of varieties of flowers in full bloom displaying the full spectrum of the Tamariskian rainbow. There would be no Rainbow Fair this year...

It's a little late today but there you go! It's a really good book. I'm glad I'm reading it. Happy Tuesday!

This week's teaser comes from The Strange Case of Finley Jayne by Kady Cross (Steampunk Chronicles #0.5).

"You're the very spawn of Satan and I'll not have you darken this door ever again."
Finley Jayne jumped as the door was slammed in her face, leaving her standing alone in the small, damp flagstone square that acted as the servants' entrance to the town house.
She'd been fired - well and good - by Mrs. Brown, the housekeeper. Normally being called the spawn of Satan would upset Finley, but lately she'd begun to wonder if the sentiment wasn't true.

This week's teaser comes from Blue by Lou Aronica.

From this deeply focused state, Gage heard two whispers. They spoke together with different voices. One voice was young. The other longed for youth. There was much consternation here. Confusion. Defiance. They knew their story was the wrong story... p 17

There ya go! Can't wait to see ya'lls teasers!

This week's teaser comes from War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.

It was nothing special when he came into the stable that morning and led Zoey out. But when he came back into the stable afterward and began to sweet-talk me and held out a bucket of sweet-smelling oats, I was immediately suspicious. But the oats and my own inquisitiveness overcame my better judgement, and he was able to slip a halter over my head before I could pull away. His voice, however, was unusually gentle and kind as he tightened the halter and reached out slowly to stroke my neck. "You'll be all right, old son," he said softly. "You'll be all right. They'll look after you - they promised they would. And I need the money, Joey; I need the money bad."

I really wasn't sure I wanted to read this book, after watching the previews for the movie. Horses hold a soft spot in my heart and ... well, I just don't know. But There it is. That's how far I've gotten. Can't wait to see ya'lls teasers!

This week's teaser comes from Alice in Deadland by Mainak Dhar.

That's when she saw him. The Biter was wearing pink bunny ears of all things. That in itself did not strike Alice as strange. When someone was bitten and joined the undead, they just continued to wear what they had been wearing when they turned. The first Biter she had shot had been wearing a tattered Santa Claus suit... What was truly peculiar about this Biter was that he was not meandering about mindlessly but seemed to be looking for something.

Zombies, Walkers, Shamblers... now Biters. Can't wait to read more of this one! And can't wait to see ya'lls teasers!

This week's teaser comes from Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Is it a new one? Absolutely not. But I'm re-reading it on my Kindle and I love it. So I had to.

Mrs. Bennet deigned not to make any reply, but, unable to contain herself, began scolding one of her daughters.
"Don't keep coughing so, Kitty, for Heaven's sake! Have a little compassion on my nerves. You tear them to pieces."
"Kitty has no discretion in her coughs," said her father; "she times them ill."

I love Mr. Bennet. I think, aside from Mr. Darcy and Lizzie, he is my favorite.

Can't wait to see ya'lls teasers!

This week's teaser comes from my latest read Humanity Scar by Monique Doucette.

After lacing up the boots (only a little bit too big! Thank God for my long feet!) and picking up my trusty crow bar I decided to make my venture to the garage. I wish I had looked outside first. I would have seen him coming...
Seriously, who wouldn't want to read it after that teaser??

Now, because I am currently out of town, I won't be able to read ya'lls teasers until I get back, but I can't wait!

This week's teaser comes from...

Wait...

This week's teaser is a MYSTERY teaser. :-)

Haha.

Once more she found herself in the long hall, and close to the little glass table. "Now I'll manage better this time," she said to herself, and began by taking the little golden key, and unlocking the door that led into the garden. p 50

And JUST incase you need another one...

And she went on planning to herself how she would manage it. "The must go by carrier," she thought; "and how funny it'll seem, sending presents to one's own feet! And how odd the directions will look!" p7

Any guesses?

;-)

This week's teaser comes from The Caldecott Chronicles #1 by RG Bullet.

Note: there's always a risk of getting infected in such close quarters. I didn't want that slime anywhere near me, so I covered my face with my kerchief, put on the ear muffs and stood ready. In the Boer War they used to say, "Wait till you see the whites of their eyes afore you fire," but with these undead, it's wait for the green or yellow of their eyes... or eye. p 48

You can read my review for this one here! Go check it out!

This week's teaser comes from my current read Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce.

It was him, the salesman, but it was also... not. He still had shiny blond hair, but now it was speckled across his body like patches of disease. His eyes were enormous and hollow, his mouth twisted and stretched as if his face had been pulled apart at the corners, revealing rows of long, pointed fangs. p 7

I'm loving it so far! Haven't been able to read a lot, but what little I have read is AWESOME!

This week's teaser comes from In Dreams Begin by Skyler White. A book I read more than a year ago but felt it deserved to resurface for a bit.
I crave sleep the way a locked-up junkie wants a hit, but I've never actually heard voices before. So maybe I'm not asleep. Maybe I'm falling apart. p 3

This book was really interesting. A bit hard to follow at times, but interesting nonetheless. I love the way Skyler writes. The words seem to just write themselves. And her descriptions of the things and people in the books are amazing.

Goodreads blurb:
In a Victorian Ireland of magic, poetry, and rebellion, Ida Jameson, an amateur occultist, reaches out for power-but captures Laura Armstrong, a modern-day graphic artist, instead. When Ida channels Laura into the body of celebrated beauty and Irish freedom-fighter Maud Gonne, Laura falls in love with the young poet W. B. Yeats. Their love affair entwines with Irish history and weaves through Yeats' poetry- until Ida discovers something she wants more than magic in the subterranean spaces between Laura's time and her own. With Laura's Irish past threatening her orderly present, she and Yeats must find a way to make their love last over time, in changing bodies...or lose each other forever.

Can't wait to see the teasers you guys have this week!

This week's teaser comes from Experience by Meg Kerr. I reviewed this a while back and absolutely LOVED it. You can read my review for it here. Meg did such a good job with the story and I just fell in love with everyone all over again.

"Shall I ask you the reason of your grave and troubled look this morning?" inquired Mrs. Darcy as their coach conveyed them out of the innyard onto the North road. "I am inclined to attribute it to the breakfast ham, though it might equally have been the cold damp toast." p 1

That right there, as you can see, is from the very first page. Any book that can make me smile or laugh within WORDS of beginning it is awesome. I urge everyone to read it. I got it for review from Bluebell Publishing, with a note from Meg inside! You can find the book here on Amazon. It's totally worth it!

My teaser this week comes from my current read, Make Mine a Bad Boy by Katie Lane. It's the second book in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series. The first one Going Cowboy Crazy, was really good and I'm about halfway through this one now. It's a tad bit slower but I'm sure it'll pick up.

"At that point, Colt probably could've stepped in and tried to set things straight about Hope not being pregnant. It would be the right thing to do. But Cold had never done the right thing where Hope was concerned, and it seemed a shame to start now."

Todays teaser comes from Alanna by Tamora Pierce. Funny because I just talked about this book on Friday. A refresher, I read this book originally because Alanna is my daughter's name. :-P But I ended up loving it so much I flew through the other 3 books in the series. It was awesome.

"Alanna watched and gathered her strength. If the Dark God wanted Jonathan's life, he had better be ready to fight for it." p 120

And here is the summary from Goodreads:
Alan of Trebond, the best warrior in the palace, is harboring a big secret: he is really a she - Alanna. But when her prince is felled by an illness, Alanna has no choice but to use her healing magic - even if it means ruining her career.

Todays teaser comes from a book I received this weekend that I won in a giveaway from the lovely Sarah over at The Brazen Bookworm.

Make Mine a Bad Boy (Deep in the Heart of Texas #2) by Katie Lane:

"Except one - one lone heart that wasn't stupid enough to give itself to such a stubborn wildcat. No, his heart didn't belong to her, but other parts of his body could be persuaded to." p 43

Haha. :-) Gotta love that cover.
